Residents reveal the recipe for the perfect brew

RESIDENTS at Bupa care homes have revealed the ideal way to make the perfect cup of tea ahead of Afternoon Tea Week (August 7 to 13).

The humble brew is a British institution, and everyone has an opinion on how to make one. So Bupa turned to those with a lifetime of experience and surveyed 81 residents to find the perfect formula.

An overwhelming majority of residents (84 per cent) said tea should be of the English breakfast variety and more than half believe it should be served in a cup and saucer rather than a mug.

96 per cent of residents take milk in their tea, with the majority advising to use enough to make a delicious caramel colour:

Only one in three residents think tea should include sugar, but for those who do add sugar, one is enough for more than half (57 per cent).

Residents also shared other tips including using hot milk, warming the pot and leaving the teabag to stew for a few minutes before drinking. They also advised on the ideal number of cuppas throughout the day – four or more.
