Clare Hunt from the apetito care homes team is joined by Tanya Ednan-Laperouse OBE, founder and trustee of The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, Emily Stuart, apetito dietitian and Iain Mortimer, apetito’s group technical manager who oversees and manages all elements of food safety and allergen controls at apetito.

Allergies can have a profound effect on the lives of individuals, with one in six of those with allergy having sufficiently severe symptoms to require medical help.

Food allergies are extremely prevalent, with a rising two million people in the UK alone living with one and a 500 per cent increase seen in hospital admissions due to food allergy over the last 30 years.

Given the scale of the population who may be living with food allergy, it can be considered likely that most care homes will encounter a resident living with a food allergy on a regular basis.

Viewers of ‘Guarding Against Allergens’ can learn about the importance of allergy processes, the devastating consequences when individuals are not protected and how to ensure resident safety at mealtimes.
