A BEESTON care home has introduced an important and impactful new resource for its residents living with dementia.
HC-One’s Silverwood care home, which provides residential, nursing and dementia care, has installed a new ‘Magic Table’ interactive light projector after a series of fundraising activities.
The huge range of games, videos, exercise classes, sensory activities, music options and remembrance prompts have been a huge hit with residents.
Wellbeing coordinator Jemma Mellard said: “This new resource has been transformative for many of our residents, especially those living with dementia. Their wellbeing has noticeably improved in the short amount of time we have had the Magic Table in place.
“Even residents who don’t feel comfortable leaving their rooms can benefit as the technology is portable and can be projected onto a bedroom ceiling.”
The Magic Table is especially of value at providing palliative care to residents living with dementia. Through a combination of light and sound the sensory games help bring a sense of calm and relaxation to residents, helping them relax and engage more closely with the world around them.
Deputy home manager Rebecca Mellard added: “This will make a massive difference to our residents and the more people who use it, the more it will encourage others.
“The wide range of applications is fantastic, and we are really pleased to have this addition to our wonderful care home.”
