Carer recognised for selfless dedication to end-of-life resident

LAURA Bradford, a team member at The Oaks in Newtown, has been named the latest recipient of the Sandstone Star Award, a recognition given to team members who go above and beyond in their roles.

She was surprised with a bouquet of flowers and a £100 gift as a token of appreciation.

Laura was nominated for her outstanding compassion and dedication, particularly during a deeply emotional moment in the home. After completing a demanding 12-hour shift, Laura received a call asking if she could return to work to sit with a resident in their final hours.

Without hesitation, she let her family know she was needed and returned to ensure that the resident was not alone at the end of their life.

Steve Hamblett, operations director at Sandstone Care Group, said: “Laura has shown the utmost dedication in her role. After a long, gruelling 12-hour shift, to go home and then let her family know she was needed back at work demonstrates an incredible work ethic.

“Ensuring one of our residents was not alone at the end of her life shows what a caring, empathetic and lovely human being Laura is. I thank her for doing that, and no award or recognition could ever match what that meant for that person and their family.

“Laura is exactly the type of person the care world needs — caring and passionate, abounding with empathy and selflessness. A truly worthy winner.”
