A COUPLE living at a Barnsley home have recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.
Gordon and Joan Pleasant, who live at MHA Mapplewell Manor, spent the day with their family and fellow residents and staff.
The two met when they were approximately 15 in a outh group at St Peter’s Church in Barnsley.
They married when they were 21 and have two children, Gordon Junior and Andrea, who joined them on the day.
They settled in Kendray, where Gordon was a painter and decorator before moving into working for the local council in the housing department and Joan worked as a teacher.
The home arranged for an afternoon tea for the couple and their family to enjoy in the sun lounge.
Kathryn Watson, activity coordinator said: “Gordon and Joan have been with us here at MHA Mapplewell Manor for approximately two years now. Joan moved in first and then Gordon followed two months later.
“They both had a lovely time and really enjoyed spending time with their loved ones.
“When I spoke to him, Gordon said he really enjoyed the party and spending time with his family, his two children and daughter-in-law.
“Gordon had been a little under the weather recently but thankfully he was back to his usual self on the day.
“The couple received another telegram from the King which they were really proud of, and we all felt very privileged to be a part of their day.”
