Residents enjoy memorable day at Forge Mill Farm

RESIDENTS at HC-One’s Perry Locks Care Home in Perry Barr, Birmingham, enjoyed a day in the sunshine on a recent trip to Forge Mill Farm in Sandwell, where they connected with nature, animals and each other.

The visit was especially meaningful for resident Edmond Griffin, who rarely ventures out but was visibly excited about the outing. Smiling throughout the journey, Edmond took in the countryside views with joy and anticipation.

Upon arrival, residents explored the charming on-site farm shop and purchased feed to interact with the animals. The group had the opportunity to hand-feed friendly goats, sheep, and even alpacas – an experience that brought endless laughter and joy, particularly for Edmond.

Wellbeing coordinator Lesley Lacey said: “Edmond couldn’t wait to see all the animals. He was laughing, smiling and thoroughly enjoying every moment. It was truly heartwarming to see.

“Creating enriching, person-centred experiences is at the heart of what we do and this special day out is just one of many ways the team supports residents’ wellbeing and happiness.”

The group also visited rabbits, chickens and ponies before settling down for a picnic in the fresh air. The open countryside setting not only lifted spirits but also worked up Edmond’s appetite. He later shared how much the trip meant to him.
