SANCTUARY Care’s Shaftesbury House Residential Care Home has been alive with the sound of music thanks to a series of songwriting sessions led by folk singer-songwriter Charlie Law.
Supported by the Alfie Carpenter Charity for Creative Arts, these sessions have offered residents at the not-for-profit care home in Ipswich an opportunity to create music, share their stories and partake in something special.
Charlie has been working closely with residents to co-write four original songs, each one inspired by their memories, experiences and voices. Over the course of three weeks the residents have gathered to create lyrics and melodies together.
The sessions have been about more than just music. They’ve sparked conversations, laughter, and even a few happy tears. For many residents it has been a chance to relive fond memories, explore new skills and enjoy the fun of creating something new.
One of the most exciting parts of the project is that the songs will be professionally recorded in a music studio, giving residents a lasting memento of their creativity. The final week will involve a listening party, where they celebrate the finished songs.
