A HAMPSHIRE archery club welcomed a care home resident as a special guest after she told carers of her wish to stay in touch with the sport.
Jane Cockeram, 89, who has lived at Colten Care’s Court Lodge in Lymington for more than two years, enjoyed a day out on the archery field at the Sway Bowmen club in the New Forest.
Court Lodge team members arranged the trip after hearing of Jane’s interest in archery from years gone by.
She first discovered her ability while living in Singapore and continued to develop her skills after moving back to the UK.
As a member of the Waterside Archers, she practised the sport for around five years, developing a deep appreciation of its focus and technique.
During her visit to Sway Bowmen, Jane enjoyed an in-depth conversation with Lead Coach Ian Mason, sharing her experiences and stories from her time in the sport.
In a generous gesture, she also donated several of her old bows to the club, a contribution that was warmly received and one that will help support new archers.
Jane travelled to Sway in the company of Court Lodge Companionship Team leader Julia Puia and minibus driver Dave Barron-Cook.
Julia said: “It was a pleasure and privilege to help Jane rekindle her interest in archery, a hobby she enjoyed during her time living abroad and in the local community. The visit was really rewarding for her.
“We thank Ian and all at the club for taking the time to help us make this wish come true for Jane.”
