Festive children’s artwork lights up care home frontage

RESIDENTS at a Sanctuary Care home in Kirkton of Skene are overjoyed to see a beautiful festive display of children’s artwork, which lights up their front garden at night.

The team at Pitcairn Lodge unveiled a magical outdoor Christmas display created in partnership with local schools and nurseries, bringing festive cheer to the community.

More than 350 pupils from nearby schools and nurseries, who regularly spend time with residents throughout the year, were invited to design a Christmas-themed artwork on a paper plate. These designs were then transformed into waterproof boards, decorated with Christmas lights, and installed throughout the grounds of the not-for-profit nursing home.

Home manager Ruth Witkowski said: “We were overwhelmed by the response from local schools and nurseries. The children’s designs have brought so much joy to our grounds, and we hope the display inspires visitors to stop and take a look.”

Nestled in a small forest in Westhill, popular with walkers, the grounds now offer a colourful festive trail for visitors to enjoy. The initiative encourages passers-by to stop and admire the children’s creativity.

Staff and residents say the Christmas artwork display is their way of giving back to the community that supports them all year-round.
