A WAKEFIELD care home was filled with applause as its manager shaved her head to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Castleford Lodge’s Sarah Golden-Hill took on the challenge in support of the charity, raising hundreds of pounds and inspiring residents, staff and families alike.
They gathered to watch as Sarah’s partner shaved her head, creating a touching moment for everyone involved.
Sarah has raised £680 so far, with donations continuing to rise every day.
The home later marked Sarah’s new haircut with a celebratory party and karaoke, filling the home with laughter and positive energy.
She said: ‘Many of our residents, colleagues, families and friends have been touched by cancer at one point or another. I couldn’t think of a better cause to support.
“The encouragement I’ve had from everyone here has been overwhelming, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has cheered me on and donated.’
This fundraiser is the first of many planned by Sarah and the Castleford Lodge team, as the home joins Orchard Care Homes’ pledge to fundraise for its 2025/26 corporate charity partner, Cancer Research UK. Sarah is already setting her sights on her next challenge, with plans to complete a bungee jump later this summer.
