Alpaca experience for care home

RESIDENTS at Dove Court Care Home in Wisbech, part of Larchwood Care, recently had a visit from some very special guests, a group of gentle, long-necked alpacas.

The visit  from Gorefield Alpacas brought delight not only to residents, but also to staff, and family members who gathered to meet the home’s furry friends who have visited previously and are becoming strong favourites.

The alpacas made their way around the care home, ensuring every resident had the chance to enjoy their calming presence. Those able to come outside were treated to the sight of the alpacas enjoying the afternoon sun in the garden, while others enjoyed their visit from the comfort of the lounge.

Residents who were unable to leave their beds were included, as the alpacas were brought to their rooms to ensure nobody missed out on the experience.

Some residents were joined by their grandchildren, who came after school to meet the alpacas making this an event for all ages.

Care home manager Nicole Thompson said: “This was such a unique experience for everyone. It’s good to do something different for the residents who loved meeting the alpacas. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves too and it made for a happy family occasion.”

Residents Jennifer Herring and Margaret Kirsop are pictured with an alpaca.
