Animal encounters bring smiles to residents

RESIDENTS at Wilton House care home in Darlington, part of Popular Care, welcomed some unusual visitors recently, as Crazy Creatures brought a wide variety of animals and insects for everyone to meet.

Emma Hardy, home manager at Wilton House, said: “Our residents absolutely loved meeting the animals and there were lots of smiles and laughter throughout the visit, although some of the staff weren’t so keen on the tarantula. Activities like this are a great way to encourage conversation, spark memories and bring everyone together.”

The session featured a fascinating mix of furry, feathery and scaly guests, including chinchillas, rabbits, a mouse, geckos, an owl and even a tarantula. Residents were able to hold or gently stroke the animals and learn more about their habits and personalities.

Steve Massey, operations manager at Popular Care, added: “Experiences like these are a big part of what makes our homes special.

“The team at Wilton House do a brilliant job creating opportunities for residents to enjoy something different and engaging.”
