Appeal for people to send birthday cards to resident

HC-One’s Dovedale Court Care Home, in Wednesbury, West Midlands, is appealing for kind-hearted people to send birthday cards to a resident who is turning 102.

Lilian, better known as Lil Hollinshead, 101, was born on March 17, 1923, in Wolverhampton. She has led an exciting life.

Lilian loves having a cup of tea and gossip with friends, and she also likes attending church. She used to work for Sir Alfred Allen at a factory in Wednesbury that made tiny gloves.

The team is helping make Lilian’s birthday wishes come true by taking her to visit her old childhood house in Franchise Street, Wednesbury, where she used to live growing up and has fond memories. Afterwards, the team are making her second wish come true by taking her to Dudley Zoo to pet animals.

However, the team at HC-One’s Dovedale Court Care Home would like to make it extra special. They are asking people to send Lilian a birthday card as it “would mean so much” to her.

Home manager Dawn Allen said: “To mark this amazing milestone birthday, we’re rallying together to get Lilian at least 102 birthday cards – one for every year of her incredible life.

“Whether it’s a store-bought card, a handmade masterpiece, or just a simple note, we want to fill her day with lots of love and laughter.

“It would mean so much to Lilian, reading the well wishes and messages from others in the local community.”

Any cards people wish to send should be sent to: F.A.O. Lilian Hollinshead, Dovedale Court Care Home, Holyhead Road, Wednesbury, West Midlands, WS10 7PZ.
