Armadillo and friends bring wild wonders to home

RESIDENTS and staff at The Rookery in Ebbw Vale were treated to an unforgettable experience when Bulldozer the armadillo and a host of exotic creatures visited the care home.

The event brought an eclectic mix of animals ranging from meerkats, prairie dogs, snakes, skunks and skinks to the star of the day, Bulldozer the armadillo.

Andrew Robson, activities co-ordinator at The Rookery, said: “It was such an amazing opportunity for our residents. Many of us have never had the chance to see animals like this up close let alone hold an armadillo.

“Activities like this are always crowd pleasers, breaking up routines and creating memories that last; it’s a way of making the day that little bit more special and that’s why we do it.”

The visit transformed an ordinary afternoon into a lively and interactive adventure, offering residents the chance to learn about, touch and even hold animals many had only ever seen on television.

They eagerly interacted with the animals and even the staff couldn’t resist joining in, some bravely handled the snakes and other scaly visitors, much to the amusement and delight of everyone watching.

A&S Animal Encounters specialises in bringing the wonders of the animal kingdom directly to schools, care homes and community groups.
