Care home creates Caribbean-themed fun

THE team at Sanctuary Care’s Breme Residential Care Home in Bromsgrove transported residents to tropical shores with a Barbados-themed day.

From the moment residents’ families and friends stepped into the not-for-profit home, they were greeted with an immersive Caribbean atmosphere.

Home manager Lauren Smith said: “The residents loved it. Events like this truly enrich our residents’ lives and it was incredible to see so much laughter and joy from all residents and staff.

“Staff took immense pride in creating the vibrant atmosphere that brought everyone together. We’re already planning our next event.”

The reception shimmered with an under-the-sea mermaid theme, while the beach-themed décor and colourful balloon arches created a tropical feeling throughout the building.

The day-long celebration featured a live singer and talented steelpan drummer playing reggae favourites, dancing and even a cheerful conga line weaving through the home.

Residents enjoyed home-made themed cuisine, cocktails and plenty of singing, creating a holiday mood that felt wonderfully realistic.

To enhance the sense of adventure, residents explored beach-themed sensory boxes and even took part in a virtual reality trip to a Barbados shoreline. The arrival of visitors, including residents from Sanctuary Care’s sister home in nearby Redditch, Brambles Residential Care Home, and family added to the occasion, emphasising the home’s focus on creating a sense of community and belonging.
