Choir bring some extra festive cheer to Oakdale Care Home residents

SCHOOLCHIDLREN brought some festive cheer by singing a host of Christmas songs to residents at Oakdale Care Home in Poole.

Pupils from Haymoor Junior School, which is part of the TEACH Trust, visited the residents to perform a host of Christmas favourites for the residents to dance along to. While donning Santa and elf hats, the children sang an array of songs including Jingle Bells, O Come All Ye Faithful, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and O Little Town of Bethlehem.

Afterwards, the children chatted to the residents about what they had been learning about at school in lessons, what they were looking forward to over the festive season, and what they had put on their lists to Father Christmas.

Sue Sands, wellbeing manager at Oakdale Care Home, said: “Our residents loved welcoming the children in to sing and dance to boost the festive mood. Christmas is always a special time for our residents as they enjoy putting up the decorations around the home.

“They also look forward to tucking into a host of tasty treats and getting crafty to make gifts for their relatives, so the wonderful performance from the Haymoor Junior School pupils was the icing on the cake for them.”

The Christmas choir was just one activity in a whole calendar of festive activities planned by Oakdale’s wellbeing team in the lead up to the big day. Other activities include decorating Christmas cakes and biscuits, making mince pieces, Christmas card arts and crafts, live music performances, quizzes and a Christmas dinner.
