RESIDENTS at Middleton Park Lodge in Leeds were “all shook up” as the nursing home hosted a lively Elvis-themed party to celebrate the King of Rock ’n’ Roll.
The event marked what would have been Elvis Presley’s 91st birthday and brought together residents, family members and friends for an afternoon of singing, dancing and good old-fashioned rock n roll.
Popular Elvis tribute entertainer ‘Memphis Pete’ performed a set of classic hits, including “Burning Love”, “Jailhouse Rock” and “All Shook Up”.
Residents joined colleagues on the dance floor, while others tapped their feet, clapped along, or waved their arms from their seats.
A particularly heart-warming moment came when Maureen, who lives at the home, recognised Memphis Pete from years ago, recalling he used to sing at a pub she frequented in Hunslet.
The pair shared memories and posed for photographs, creating a special connection during the event.
She said: “It was fantastic to see Elvis come alive again. I even recognised Memphis Pete from years ago, and it brought back so many happy memories. I couldn’t stop singing along.”
Activities co-ordinator Paula added: ‘Events like this are incredibly important for our residents’ wellbeing. Music unlocks memories and sparks conversation, and we saw that so clearly.
“Residents reminisced about dances, shared stories, and enjoyed the moment together. It’s these meaningful experiences that bring joy and connection to everyday life.”
Middleton Park Lodge regularly hosts themed events and live entertainment to encourage social engagement, emotional well-being, and a sense of community.
