RESIDENTS at Aspen Grange care home in Braintree were treated to some larger-than-life visitors recently, thanks to visit from the local RSPCA – in the form of some truly giant rabbits.
The gentle giants quickly made themselves at home, hopping from room to room and bringing smiles to residents and staff alike. For many, the experience was not only a delightful surprise but a powerful reminder of the comfort and connection animals can bring.
Sharon Thompson, home manager at Aspen Grange, said: “There’s something incredibly special about animals and the way they can lift spirits. The joy on our residents’ faces said it all – these giant rabbits brought such a calming and cheerful energy to the home.
“It sparked conversations, brought back memories, and created a really lovely atmosphere. We’re so grateful to the local RSPCA for making this possible.”
Animal-assisted therapy is increasingly recognised for its positive effects on wellbeing, especially among older people and those living with dementia. Studies have shown that interactions with animals can reduce anxiety and even promote physical activity and communication.
The rabbits’ visit is part of Aspen Grange’s commitment to creating a vibrant, engaging environment for residents, where wellbeing and happiness are at the heart of everything they do.
