MEARNS House in Newton Mearns, Glasgow, has been inspired by the city’s annual Celtic Connections music festival, hosting more than 100 people at an event in the care home with performances from some of the festival’s musicians.
The Meallmore operated facility ran the music-festival-inspired event not just for its residents, but also extended invitations to families and the local community. Everyone enjoyed a celebration of folk, roots and world music in the sunshine alongside a barbecue and a drink from a mobile cocktail cart.
With help from Live Music Now Scotland, deputy manager Kamil Zietek approached artists who have played the festival in the past. They secured performances for the afternoon from clarsach players ‘The Williow Duo’ and singer-songwriter Emma Martin.
He said: “Just as the 2,100 musicians at Glasgow’s annual Celtic Connections festival brings the city to life, we were excited to create our own version for an afternoon filled with music and joy for the residents at Mearns House.
“Music is an incredible way for people to bond with one another, and we were thrilled to see the residents and local community do so thanks to the brilliant musicians who volunteered to spend the afternoon with us.”
