Grimsby care home to host open day with a Viking twist

OLD Norse Lodge in Grimsby, part of Danforth Care Homes, is hosting a community open day with a Viking twist on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

The free event promises a day of fun, discovery and family-friendly activities for all ages. In partnership with Havelok’s Village, the event will bring the world of the Vikings to life.

Guests will also have the chance to tour the care home’s facilities and meet the team led by manager Rachael Smith.

She said: “We are delighted to open our doors to the community for such a unique and exciting event. We’re all about creating engaging, memorable experiences for our residents and the wider community.

“The Viking experience day is the perfect way to come together, have fun and learn about our rich heritage.”

More than 1,000 years ago, Grimsby was the gateway between the Viking kingdom of Jorvik and the rest of the Viking world. The name Grimsby derives from the Viking name Grim, a legendary figure who rescued the Danish prince Havelock as a child and brought him up in exile.

Highlights of the day will include:

• Meet the Vikings: Discover life as a Viking and hear their fascinating tales.

• Viking village: Explore an authentic Viking encampment.

• Weapon displays: Marvel at historical weaponry and learn about its use in Viking times.

• Arts and crafts: Get creative with themed activities suitable for all ages.

• Film screening: Watch Grim and Havelok brought to life on screen.
