Home appeals to community to help with garden makeover

A LOWESTOFT care home is hosting an open gardening weekend in hopes of bringing the community together to makeover the garden – creating a space for residents and locals to enjoy throughout the summer.

The Dell, a branch of Wellbeing Care that provides residential, dementia and respite care, is appealing to schools, businesses and community groups to spare some time or donations over the weekend of June 21, 22 and 23 to revamp its garden space.

Joy Henshaw, regional director of Wellbeing Care, said: “If each volunteer could only give an hour, collectively that would make a big difference.

“Having a fresh and tidy space to enjoy will have a great impact on the residents wellbeing, and will be a place where they can create some happy memories throughout the summer.

“We are incredibly grateful for any support that we receive and look forward to welcoming volunteers of all ages and celebrating together again with a picnic in July.”

Over the three days, The Dell are asking for people to bring their own tools and help to:

• Repaint benches and trellis works.

• General planting and enhancing the garden’s aesthetics.

• Weeding, sweeping and tidying of all areas.

• Re-staining the raised flower beds.

In addition to volunteering time, The Dell is also seeking donations of various gardening supplies, and would be appreciative of contributions such as plants, garden ornaments, paint, brushes and other garden maintenance items.

In appreciation of the community’s efforts, The Dell will host a picnic in the newly revamped garden on July 12 to honour National Picnic Month. They hope this will further strengthen bonds with the local community and highlight the positive impact of collaborative efforts.
