Home hosts open days for veterans and their partners

A SURBITON care home will throw open its doors to the veterans’ community when it hosts two open days.

Royal Star & Garter will showcase the person-centred long-term and short-break care it delivers to veterans, their family and friends, during open days on January 31 and 7 February. Those wishing to attend are asked to register in advance.

The home welcomes anyone who has served in the UK Armed Forces, including Reservists and those who completed National Service.

Visitors interested in short breaks, which is now available to people living with dementia, are also encouraged to attend. The short stay offer allows for 30 per cent off a two-week stay between January and April 30 if booked by February 28.

The open days run from 10.30am to 12.30pm on January 31 and 2pm to 4pm on February 7.

Those attending will be given a snapshot of everyday life at Royal Star & Garter and the chance to speak to senior staff. They will be offered a tour of the home, which will include the in-house physiotherapy room and hair salon, garden, activities room and lounges.

Visitors will be able to watch or participate in a range of activities taking place on the day.

Senior care staff, including home manager Helena Maher and members of the wellbeing team, will be available to answer questions over a cuppa and a slice of cake. Residents will also be on hand to speak to visitors about Royal Star & Garter.
