Home joins singing duo to celebrate fundraising success

STAFF from Millway House care home in Andover attended a charity cheque presentation at the Barleycorn Inn near Marlborough.

Singing duo Just The 2 Of Us, who perform at care homes across Wiltshire and Hampshire, donate their fees to charity and have raised more than £8,000 since they formed five years ago.

Dee Paine and Sue Vallis met in 2018 when they were singing in a choir. Their voices blended so well that they decided to form a duo. Singing in nursing and care homes, as well as at private events, they raise money for local charities Wiltshire & Bath Air Ambulance and Brighter Futures at Great Western Hospital, Swindon.

Their repertoire includes songs from the 1950s up to the present day and they are firm favourites at Millway House.

“Millway has a special place in our hearts because we’ve been performing there from the start,” said Dee. “During lockdown, Millway was the first home where we managed to sing for the residents using a live video link, which was quite emotional.

“That’s why we wanted to invite them to our charity cheque presentation. It was great to have activities co-ordinator Sarah Holland there – she works so hard to put on a range of fabulous activities for the residents at the home.”

Sarah said: “Our residents really love Just The 2 Of Us and enjoy singing along to their performances. It’s always such a fun day when Dee and Sue visit us, and we were delighted to be asked to their charity presentation evening.”
