RESIDENTS, families and staff at Hampton Court Care Home came together in style to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a heartwarming day of music, memory-sharing and community spirit.
The home was decked out in red, white and blue as it hosted a 1940s-style street party complete with bunting, Union flags, and a traditional fish and chip lunch
Manager Gina Cirino said: “It was a truly special day – not just a celebration, but a meaningful opportunity to honour and reflect on the lives and sacrifices of those who lived through the war.
“Seeing our residents so engaged and joyful made it incredibly moving for all involved.”
The highlight of the morning was a special performance by Pippa Langhorne, former Britain’s Got Talent finalist, whose renditions of wartime favourites brought smiles, tears and singalongs from residents and guests alike.
Staff embraced the theme by dressing in vintage 1940s attire, military uniforms or patriotic colours, adding to the vibrant and nostalgic atmosphere of the day.
In preparation for the event, residents had been invited to share their own memories of the Second World War – poignant stories and reflections which were proudly displayed throughout the home, sparking conversations and reminiscence among visitors and staff.
