ICG social care song to feature in day of action

A SONG released by the social care provider organisation The Independent Care Group is to feature at the forthcoming national day of action by the sector.

The song, ‘Who Cares?’ will be performed when care providers from across the country converge on Westminster for the day of action on February 25. A video of the song is to be used to promote the event.

The song was co-written by ICG marketing executive Brian Johnson and performed by co-writer, Ivor Novello-nominated singer-songwriter Boo Hewerdine. Proceeds from its sale go to The Care Workers’ Charity.

The day of action, which is being organised by Providers Unite, a coalition of social care representatives, will call on the Government to review the impact the proposed increase in Employer’s National Insurance Contributions and rise in the National Living Wage will have on social care.

The ICG is backing the day of action and is delighted that Boo will be performing the song.

Chair Mike Padgham said: “We are passionate about supporting the day of action and thrilled that ‘Who Cares?’ is going to be a part of the proceedings.

“The song highlights the vital role social care plays in looking after the oldest and most vulnerable sections of our society.

“We very much hope that having it performed during the day of action will help us all to get across how important social care is and how vital it is that the sector gets the support and reform that it deserves.”

He said the day of action was evidence of the strength of feeling in the sector.
