MATT Capener has run his first London Marathon to raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis, a disease that occurs when the lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred.
As a regional operations manager for care provider RMBI Care Co., Matt is aware of the many challenges illnesses can bring upon healthcare users. However, he was also motivated by his brother Mick, whom he lost due to this particular disease.
Matt said: “My lovely brother, a wonderful bloke who made me laugh till my belly ached, died at the age of 62 after working in the NHS for 40 years. Pulmonary fibrosis ended his life far too soon.”
Matt decided to start training for the London Marathon, running a total of 330 miles over the past months to keep fit. His aim was to raise funds for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust, which provides personal support to people affected by the illness.
Matt’s target was to raise £250 for the charity. When he finally completed the London Marathon he ended up raising more than £2,000.
