Mayor and town crier visit care home

RESIDENTS at Yeovil care home Chestnut Lodge said they felt very honoured to have a visit from the mayor and town crier.

Andy Kendall and David Recardo both arrived at the specialist dementia care home wearing their official paraphernalia: Andy wearing his mayoral chain and David in the full regalia of his office.

Chestnut Lodge’s activities team member Gary Shackle said: “Our residents were so interested to hear about what both our visitors do in their official capacity.

“The mayor had a chat with them about how he works to ensure developments of all kind in Yeovil are beneficial for the people who live in the town.

“Then our residents were allowed to have a go at ringing the town crier’s bell, which everyone found very exciting.

“We also heard about the duties and responsibilities that accompany the post, and it was so interesting to learn about the origin and symbolism of the town crier’s dress and accoutrements.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to both Andy and David for giving up their time to come and see us and chat with our ladies and gents who really enjoyed having a good laugh about old times with them.”

Chestnut Lodge is run by award-winning dementia care providers Camelot Care, who also have care homes in Bridgwater, Wellington and Plymouth, with a fifth due to open in Holsworthy this year.
