RADIS Community Care’s charities for the year are Mind and Age UK.
And, to kickstart a year’s worth of fundraisers, a number of the company’s services came together for its ‘One Mile per Smile’ campaign, where staff and care workers walked, ran and cycled 3,200 miles – a mile for each client they support.
National live-in manager Jay Symons led the way with her and the live-in team completing the most miles.
She said: “For me, leading by example is so important. To ensure I did my bit, I would get my walking shoes on and walk for four miles – no matter rain or shine.
“All managers, our coordinator, as well as some of our carers and clients actively took part too. And, promoting the benefits of exercise on mental wellbeing whilst taking in the fresh air was really important to us.”
Business support administrator Fay Davis said many of the staff located at the operator’s Tamworth head office used their lunch break to get in some extra miles.
She added: “I always go for a walk before work, but this fundraiser pushed me to do even more and to go even further.
“I walked two miles both morning and evening, as well as more over the weekend – and it’s something I have continued to do.”
