CARE home resident Mary Stewart was delighted when she was invited to be a judge for a musical competition.
Attending the Renfrew Pipe Band competition in Robertson Park with fellow residents from Craigielea Care Home, Mary found herself plucked from the crowd by the organisers at the last minute.
Overhearing her sharing her musical expertise with her friends, the judges recognised her knowledge and asked her to join the judging panel for the event.
Manager Sheila Inshaw said: “Taking the residents out to Robertson Park for the competition was a true pleasure; they all loved the music.
“Mary had a brilliant day as a judge, and we are immensely thankful to the organisers for making it possible. We look forward to returning next year for another memorable experience.”
The 74-year-old embraced her role as a judge with excitement and spent the day closely observing the talented entrants. The competition was fierce, with the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association evaluating the bands’ performances across various grades.
Alongside her fellow panellists, Mary played a crucial role in determining the overall winner, as well as deciding the champions of the ‘best dressed’ and ‘best drums’ categories.
The event culminated with a grand march past, where all the competing bands played together as one. This spectacle was especially meaningful for the residents of Craigielea, as many of them had fond memories of listening to or playing the pipes during their childhood.
