Residents raise money for charity with walk

RESIDENTS and staff from Craigielea Care Home in Gateshead, part of Solehawk, laced up their walking shoes for a meaningful journey to one of the North East’s most iconic landmarks, the Angel of the North.

Five residents took part in the walk, which raised £120 for the Alzheimer’s Society – Craigielea’s chosen charity for September.

The walk was organised by the activities team to both fundraise and provide residents with an opportunity to enjoy fresh air, exercise and camaraderie with friends.

Leaving from the home in Low Fell, the residents enjoyed the scenic route to the famous sculpture, taking in views of the valley.

Service support manager Kimberley Metters said: “It’s always so lovely to do activities like this with our residents.

“Events like these aren’t just about raising money they’re about giving everyone the chance to get out, enjoy the fresh air, and create special memories together.

“Each resident was photographed in front of the angel for their own personal photo albums which will serve as a special reminder of this walk.”

The Alzheimer’s Society is a cause close to the hearts of many at Craigielea Care Home, where staff and residents alike have seen firsthand the impact dementia can have on individuals and loved ones.
