SPRING was in the air when the residents of a New Forest care home invited local primary schoolchildren to visit for a themed afternoon of crafts, cake decorating and quizzes.
Following on from their successful Autumn Festival last year, Colten Care’s outstanding rated Woodpeckers in Brockenhurst invited year one pupils from Brockenhurst Primary School to attend its Spring Festival.
The event was an opportunity for residents to engage with the younger generation and share their knowledge on a range of Spring-related topics.
The children arrived to find exciting themed tables where they could decorate butterfly cakes, create flower pictures, make a large butterfly collage and take part in an Easter egg hunt.
Resident June Farrow was in charge of the bird quiz activity and challenging the children to name popular garden birds for the chance of winning an Easter ‘chick’ knitted by her fellow residents.
She said: “The children were so enthusiastic and inquisitive – and so polite. It was wonderful chatting to them, finding out about their favourite birds and of course all the chocolate they are hoping to receive at Easter.
“When they realised the little knitted chick they were winning also held a secret chocolate egg, they beamed all over.”
The children sang a song to thank residents before they left and accepted an invitation to return again soon.
