Sensio RoomMate Sensors Cut Falls by 50% at Heron Hill Care Home

Since the installation of RoomMate at Heron Hill Care Home, there has been a 50% reduction in falls. Nicola Spedding, Registered Manager at Heron Hill said: “By automating certain monitoring tasks, the system allows the care team to focus on direct care and engagement with residents, rather than constant manual checks. This leads to better quality of care and increased resident satisfaction. It also provides families with greater reassurance knowing that their loved ones are being monitored, and that staff are quickly notified in case of an emergency. This can reduce anxiety and stress for everyone involved”.

Heron Hill Care Home in Kendal, which is a part of Abbey Healthcare, started their partnership with Sensio in December 2024. The care home has successfully installed privacy first multi sensors (RoomMate) in all rooms and are using a digital supervision functionality to support residents through behaviour and routine observations as well as ensuring safety.

The team at Heron Hill Care Home are not only embracing this technology but are also using it to enhance the well-being of residents. With fewer night-time disturbances and improved sleep quality due to the digital supervisions, residents are experiencing more comfort, safety, and dignity than ever before.

Andy Taylor, Finance Director for Abbey Healthcare, commented: “Adopting Sensio’s RoomMate has further enhanced and improved our residents’ experiences. RoomMate has proven to be highly effective in reducing falls.”

Digital supervisions have risen from 42% to an impressive 82%, enabling more proactive care and freeing up valuable time for truly person-centred interactions. The statistics also show that there has been an impressive 50% fall reduction due to the RoomMate sensor.

“We are very excited to be partnering with Abbey Healthcare and achieving remarkable success stories for Sensio in the UK. We really enjoy collaborating with the team at Abbey Healthcare and have been impressed by their eagerness to embrace innovative technology and new ways of working.” says Lisa Delaney, Country Manager Sensio UK.

Sensio is a leading provider of care technology through pioneering software and products, solving today’s and tomorrow’s care challenges for the benefit of residents, relatives, care teams and society. Sensio’s revolutionary multi-sensor RoomMate is used in more than 20,000 rooms in care homes and home care services in the Nordic countries and the UK.

RoomMate is a privacy first multi-sensor that alerts care teams when a resident is at risk of a fall and helps ensure staff are available to prevent a fall before it happens. RoomMate also captures valuable activity data that is fed directly through to care planning software to enrich care plans and drive better quality evidence-based decision making.

“This is more than a success statistic, it is a remarkable milestone and a step toward the future of dignified and compassionate, tech-enabled care”, says Lisa Delaney, Country Manager Sensio UK.
