TO honour the memory of a care-giver, tenants at a Lowestoft assisted living facility are planning to walk 200-miles – the equivalent distance of Leeds to Lowestoft – to raise £1,000 for two good causes.
Carl Andrews, who worked as a carer at Dell View, in Oulton Broad, for nine years, lost his battle to Sarcoma cancer in July.
The tenants and team at Dell View were determined to honour Carl’s memory by raising money for the team at Beccles and District War Memorial Hospital (East Coast Community Healthcare CIC), where Carl was supported in his final days.
They will also raise funds to create a memorial garden at Dell View, a branch of Wellbeing Care that provides assisted living for those with additional needs, where the tenants can go to remember Carl in a safe space and reflect, think and find peace.
The distance of Leeds to Lowestoft was chosen as Carl was a huge Emmerdale fan, and regularly took one of his tenants to the studios in Leeds.
Joy Henshaw, regional director of Wellbeing Care, said: “Carl was more than just a caregiver, he was a friend, mentor and advocate for independence. His dedication to those in his care was unwavering, and he spent nine years making sure they felt special, valued, and capable.
“Whether it was taking them on holidays, teaching them to cook, or even setting up a camping experience in the garden for those who couldn’t afford a trip, Carl’s commitment knew no bounds.”
The tenants will take on the challenge throughout August and welcome all donations to keep Carl’s spirit alive. The funds can be donated via a GoFundMe page.
