The Oaks Care Home celebrates St David’s Day

THE Singing Farmer, a therapy dog called Jess and local primary school children all helped residents at The Oaks Care Home to celebrate St David’s Day.

Children from Maesyrhandir Primary School in Newtown popped into the home to sing songs in Welsh and decorate pictures with the residents, who had prepared for the day by flower arranging.

Welshpool’s famous singing sheep famer John Hughes came along to carry on the celebrations. The internet sensation, known as The Singing Farmer, is a regular visitor to the home and is much loved by the residents for his songs.

There was also a visit from Jess the therapy dog, who is coming back again soon because she was such a hit.

Jen Roberts, registered manager of The Oaks, said: “St David’s Day is a very colourful time of the year in Wales and we filled the home with vibrant yellow daffodils, which residents helped to arrange in vases.

“We love inviting local school children into the home and it was very special seeing them interacting with residents, colouring in pictures together and playing board games. Everyone tucked into home-made Welsh cakes, all made by our wonderful cooks.”
