Care assistant puts best foot forward for charity

ALAN Hall, a care assistant at New Care’s recently opened Egerton Manor Care Centre in Bolton, has walked 50 miles to raise more than £350 for Dementia UK.

Passionate about caring for others, Alan has worked within the dementia community at Egerton Manor since the start of this year and recently took on the role of dementia champion at the care centre.

Proving he has what it takes to make a difference for those living with dementia, he has completed more than 132,000 steps over 30 days in June to raise much needed cash for the charity that provides help and support to those living with dementia and their families.

After many years in the travel and entertainment industries, Alan discovered his true vocation for social care when he joined the Egerton Manor team. He immediately set about making a difference within the dementia community and is well known and loved by all of the home’s residents.

It was his idea to undertake the walking challenge after seeing a post on Facebook and has been undertaking the miles on his days off and at the weekends walking solo and taking regular ‘selfies’ to keep his own followers and the Egerton Manor team up-to-date.

Staff and residents and their families have been fully supportive of Alan’s challenge and with him every step of the way. Now complete, Alan is looking forward to a relaxing tw- hour full body and tissue massage and plenty of sleep.
