THREE care home operators have come together to announce their commitment to creating more sustainable businesses on World Environment Day (June 5).
Solehawk, Popular Care and Intobeige, which operate nine care homes in total, aim to minimise their environmental footprint while enhancing the well-being of residents, employees and local communities.
They will achieve this by taking proactive steps including:
- Reduction in energy usage.
- Implementation of voltage optimisation programmes.
- LED lighting across all homes.
- Renewable and sustainable product adoption.
- Eco-certified electrical product investment.
- Reduction in single use products and elimination of aerosols.
- Sustainable waste management.
- Installation of EV charging points.
Steve Massey, operations director said: “We are thrilled to launch our comprehensive sustainability commitment on World Environment Day. By integrating sustainable practices into our operations, we aim to lead the way in the care sector.
“Our residents can also play an important role in promoting sustainability. We will encourage them to make conscious choices such as reducing energy and water usage, properly disposing of waste and using eco-friendly products.”
Sustainability champions will be appointed as part of the sustainability commitment. These dedicated individuals will spearhead sustainability initiatives, implementing the programmes within each home, promote environmental awareness among employees, and drive sustainable practices throughout the organisation.
All the homes are already part of their local communities and will make key commitments as part of the sustainability strategy, including community sponsorship and investment, supporting small and local businesses, enabling team members to engage in community clean up projects and partnering with local community groups to promote health and wellness activities.
