THE flags and bunting are going up, the decorations are being made, lunch menus have been prepared and places are being reserved in the television lounges as residents in Black Swan’s care homes get ready for the King’s coronation this weekend.
Care teams and activity co-ordinators across the group’s homes have been getting creative, supporting residents to create home-made decorations, posters and even crowns to display.
Many of the residents were teenagers when the late Queen was crowned in 1953, so they are taking the opportunity to enjoy the ceremony and the celebrations for the King’s coronation.
Many homes have organised open days and parties for their residents and the local communities across the three-day bank holiday weekend to enjoy the festivities.
Lorna Jones, an activities co-ordinator at The Gables in Chatteris, said: “We all love a party, and this occasion is an ideal opportunity for us to join in with the celebrations.
“Our activities sessions in the homes are a big part of the care and support that we provide, so our residents have been enjoying getting crafty, making lots of decorations. The home is looking lovely, and we can’t wait to enjoy the weekend with our residents, their families and the local community.”
