RESIDENTS from across Oakland Care’s 10 care homes celebrated National Tea Day with Twinings.
With approximately 60 billion cups consumed a year, National Tea Day, which falls on April 21, brings people from across the country together to celebrate the nation’s favourite beverage.
To mark the occasion the care home provider linked up with the well-known tea company for a unique series of tea events.
Development chef at Oakland Care, Annika James, said: “ The residents from across our care homes thoroughly enjoyed the tasting experience and were able to learn a great deal about the health benefits of tea.
“A fundamental care need for our residents is ensuring that they consume enough fluids every day. Hydration is an important factor to consider particularly in our older age, with the way in which our body manages water changing.
“By offering a diverse range of teas we can not only help alleviate this challenge, but support the intake of vitamins, minerals, or natural botanical ingredients present in many teas which benefits everyday wellbeing as well as minimising other health risks.”
After hearing more about the fascinating history of the company and their range of teas, residents were then given the opportunity to taste and rate a range of blends. This included drinks which contain vitamins, minerals, or natural botanical ingredients to support everyday wellbeing.
To accompany their teas, residents were also given the opportunity to get stuck into some baking, with a specially prepared Earl Grey tea bread recipe provided by Oakland Care’s executive chef.
