EMPLOYEES, residents and their families took part in an annual cycling challenge organised by a Yorkshire-based social care group.
Tour de HICA is an ambitious event with participants aiming to travel 1,780 miles – the equivalent of a round trip from Hull to Munich. This year it raised £785 which go towards the operator’s SHINE fund that’s used for care provision across the group.
CEO Terry Peel said: “The Tour de HICA challenge is a testament to our community’s dedication and passion to providing the very best of support to all the people that we care for.
“It’s wonderful to see everyone come together, from staff and residents to their families and local sports teams, all contributing to such a worthy cause.
“The SHINE Fund plays a vital role in enhancing the lives of our residents and events like this make a significant impact.”
Staff and service users from across HICA’s care homes and other care settings including Wilton Lodge, Isaac Robinson Court, HICA Homecare Hull, Raleigh Court and The Hollies, gathered at the provider’s Hessle base to contribute to the goal.
Also supporting from their respective locations, Kirkgate House (Bridlington), Elm Tree Court (Hull), The Grange at Buckshaw Retirement Village (in Lancashire), Overton House (Cottingham), Fairways (Grimsby) and Hampden House (Harrogate) recorded miles to contribute to the overall tally.
Overton House added a touch of fun to their involvement by holding a fun day and accumulating their miles by walking up and down the car park. Fairways, which provides HICA homecare services, achieved 405 miles on their own, significantly boosting the collective mileage.
Local community groups took part too including The Orchard Park Under 13s football team, sponsored by HICA, and their families.
